I am a stay-at-home Mom (SAHM) with 3 kids (12,10, & 6 years old), married to a wonderful man. I never thought I will be a SAHM. In my college years, I’ve always dreamed of a successful career…or so I thought. However, marriage and children have changed it all.
I now enjoy busy life with my children and learning all those things that interests me. This would have not been possible if I work outside the home. I have been blessed to have a husband that works hard to support our family financially. Being a SAHM, I got to enjoy baking and cooking, gardening, homeschooling, stockmarket and investment. The list will go on as learning never-ends.
Are there moments when I think of working outside the home, earning money, and having more? Of course! But when the thought comes to me, I just remind myself how fortunate I am to watch and guide my children at this time. I like the words in Ecclesiastes 3:1 “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” Now is the season for me to devote my time in the home and the future holds other purpose for me.
I am reminded of a story of a mother in ancient Rome. A group of women were, with vanity, showing their jewels one to another. Among them was Cornelia, a mother of two boys. One of the women inquired, “And where are your jewels?” Cornelia pointed to her sons and said, “These are my jewels.”
Cornelia taught and guided her sons. They grew up to become Gaius and Tiberius Gracchus. They were known, the Gracchi, the most effective reformers in Roman history.
I share the same thoughts as Cornelia. My children are my jewels. My family is the most precious possession I have. The time we spent together will always be cherished. I share the same wish every good mother has for her children. This is for her children to make the right choices in life. I hope when the nest is empty, I can look back and say: “I did all I can as a mom to bring them up to be good people.”
