This morning I spent some time weeding flowerbeds and preparing a section outside for planting. These aren’t my favourite part of gardening. They are hard work, especially for me. I always feel pain on my wrist each time I do weeding.
I liken gardening in our lives. In order to get good harvest or beautiful flowers, we have to prepare the soil and plant the seeds or young plants in a good soil. We water them and take care of them. While in early years, weeding is a must or they will take over the young plants. Without weeding, the plants will not grow healthy, strong, and beautiful. They will not achieve their full potential.
Long time ago, Andrew and I read about Ivan the Terrible. Oh did he do such gruesome things!! We didn’t even continue reading the book. It wasn’t anymore uplifting at that point. The first thought that came to my mind and a question I shared with Andrew was: “What kind of childhood did this man have?” Of course, if we go back to his story, we will find that, as a boy, Ivan grew up with no guidance and so much “weeds” in life. Surely, not all kids brought up in good soil and nurtured become good people. People have their free agency to choose what they want to choose. But I believe we have better chances of bringing up good people in the society when we guide and teach them early.
